I need a typeface as a basis to create my 4d typeface off of, I had originally been using akzidenz-grotesk as a temporary test, but I am now looking towards creating a entire typeface. I was thinking about utilizing a bitmap typeface, as it was one of the earliest typefaeces used on early computer monitors owing to their low resolution. This is partly inspired by the reserach I did on Vanderbeek and Knowlton (an image of theirs can be seen below). bhowever I am concerned as to how it wll tranlate to 4D.
Originally I was looking at Van Doesburg's typography work in which epitomises De Stijl and its geometric qualitites. This interested me asalthough I have have worked out how to do corners and straight lines in 4D such as 'A', curves become much mroe difficult partiuclarly intersections, therefore I was looking at wholly angular work. However I also included some of his more well-known graphic work more explicitly of a De Stijl nature. Particularly was striking was the colours much like I had been drawn to the primary colours of Karel Martens I was also interested in the strong black lines and its contrasst with the color perhaops look intot his for the screen printing.
